Artist Statement
One perceives space through vision.
I remember visiting the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, seeing the exposed rock surfaces while driving through the valley. As I was told, the texture of the mountains was sculpted by the glaciers from the Ice Age, leaving cliffs with horizontal dents.
In that experience, there were two forms of space. Both spaces appeared as images: one is present as it casts into the eyes, and the other exists as a residue from an event. The former is the pictorial landscape. The latter appeared as images of textures, capturing the movement of the ancient ice; Its evidence engraved on the rocks, resting on those rugged surfaces.
Such representation is admirable.
It extends the possibilities of aesthetics beyond forms, yet does not require narration or symbolism as a medium for it to be perceived.
It expands the possibilities of interpretation, guiding the mind beyond the image, towards the physicality and reason.
It inspires to contemplate on concepts, on structure, or to discard any complication, and simply feel and touch.
Yet, this perception remains visual, as are the works.
